Union Barbering is a business driven by genuine passion and personal heritage. Founded by Colin Miller, a British-born football coach on the Gold Coast, the brand represents a return to a long-held craft alongside a demanding professional career. Barbering was never just a skill for Colin - it was part of his identity. Establishing Union Barbering in Burleigh Heads allowed him to bring that passion back to life, offering an affordable, approachable service rooted in tradition, community and personal connection. The brand needed to reflect authenticity, pride in craft and a strong sense of British influence, while still appealing to a modern coastal audience. Barber Branding Design and Marketing.
Our Strategic Contribution: The name Union became the foundation of the brand concept, referencing British heritage while symbolising connection, tradition and identity. Colin arrived with a clear vision - wanting a traditional barber pole reimagined in a contemporary way. Our role was to refine and elevate that idea into a distinctive, timeless identity. Using the classic colour language of barbering combined with subtle cues from the British flag, we designed a modern interpretation of the barber pole. Through angled colour bars, controlled use of light and shadow, and a minimal shape system, we created depth and cylindrical form using just three core elements - keeping the mark clean, recognisable and versatile. The identity was then rolled out across loyalty cards, promotional materials and in-store signage, ensuring a consistent brand presence that felt authentic, confident and unmistakably Union Barbering.
